New Zealand pair’s storm in T20 World Cup, Tim Seifert-Finn Allen broke all partnership records

The New Zealand team is looking in excellent form in the T20 World Cup 2026. In the 11th match played against UAE, the Kiwi batsmen gave such a stormy performance, which added a new chapter in the history of the World Cup. Chasing the target of 174 runs, New Zealand won the match in a one-sided fashion and registered its second consecutive win in the tournament.

The biggest feature of this match was the historic partnership between New Zealand’s opening batsmen. Finn Allen and Tim Seifert made such an unbeaten partnership for the first wicket, which left behind all the old records related to partnerships in the T20 World Cup.

Chasing the target, Tim Seifert and Finn Allen made an unbeaten partnership of 175 runs for the first wicket. This is the highest ever partnership for any wicket in the history of T20 World Cup. Both the batsmen adopted an aggressive attitude from the beginning and did not give the UAE bowlers any chance to make a comeback in the contest.

With this historic partnership, Seifert and Allen broke the record of England’s Jos Buttler and Alex Hales. Earlier, in the semi-final match of the 2022 T20 World Cup, Buttler and Hales had made an unbeaten partnership of 170 runs for the first wicket against India, which was the highest record till date.

The list of biggest partnerships in the T20 World Cup also includes the names of South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and Riley Rousseau, who made a partnership of 168 runs against Bangladesh in 2022. Whereas Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara had added 166 runs for the second wicket against West Indies in the 2010 T20 World Cup. Apart from this, Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran had made a partnership of 154 runs against Uganda in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Batting first in the match, UAE captain Muhammad Wasim won the toss and decided to bat. The UAE team scored 173 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. During this, captain Muhammad Wasim and Aalishaan Sharafu played half-century innings. However, this score proved to be very small in front of the New Zealand openers. Tim Seifert and Finn Allen scored 175 runs in just 15.2 overs to give New Zealand a spectacular victory by 10 wickets.
