Google develops cross-ecosystem connectivity for Android

Android Quick Share extension

Google is soon going to introduce a new feature, which will make file sharing easier for Android users. This feature was earlier limited to Pixel phones, but now it will be made available on other Android devices as well. Users will be able to easily send photos, videos, PDFs and other files to nearby devices without any apps or cloud uploads.

From Android to iPhone too

The most important aspect of this feature is that it will not be limited to Android devices only. According to reports, Apple devices like iPhone, iPad, and MacBook will also be a part of this sharing network. This means that cross-ecosystem file sharing will now be possible.

Google’s strategic change

Apple’s AirDrop has long been a key means of locking users into its ecosystem. If this new move of Google is successful, it will provide more freedom to the users in choosing the device. With this, Android will not show itself as a separate platform and can change the balance of power in the world of technology.

matter of security and privacy

Google has clarified that this feature will be completely safe. Encrypted protocol will be used in this, due to which privacy will be taken care of. No file will go to the cloud unless the user wants to share it. This means that your photos and documents will remain only with you.

When will this feature be available?

Google has hinted that this is the beginning and that there are possibilities to bring phone-switching tools and better cross-device workflows in the future. It is expected that important announcements will be made on this at GoogleI/O to be held in May 2026.
