T20 World Cup: Bangladesh aim to mend ties with BCCI during India-Pakistan game – Report

New Delhi: The Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam is looking to “break the ice” with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and Pakistan, which is scheduled to be played in Colombo on Sunday, February 15. The development was confirmed by a cricbuzz report.

The BCB president said that they have played a crucial role in convincing Pakistan to reconsider their decision to play against India during the tripartite meeting in Lahore.

Bangladesh decided to skip the T20 World Cup due to security reasons after the ICC rejected their request of shifting their matches from India. In the ICC meeting, it was decided that Bangladesh will not play in the global tournament on the basis of votes. Scotland then replaced Bangladesh in the event.

Following the meeting in Lahore, the ICC said that no sanctions will be imposed on Bangladesh for boycotting the T20 World Cup 2026, while an agreement was also reached that Bangladesh will host an ICC event between 2028 and 2031.

Asian representatives set to meet in Colombo

Animul said that the ICC has decided that representatives from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will meet in Colombo and watch the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan together.

“The ICC has taken a decision. The major stakeholders of the ICC are these five Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan) and for the India-Pakistan match on the 15th in the World Cup, they want representatives of all five Asian countries to be present at the ground together, watch the match together and talk to one another,” Aminul said to leading Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo as quoted by cricbuzz.

“You can consider it as something like that (an ice breaker between BCB and BCCI),” he added.

Aminul further added that they were likely to prepare an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) so that there is no uncertainty in the future. Pakistan have won their first two matches of the tournament, defeating the Netherlands and the USA. India also won their opening match against the USA and will take on Namibia on February 12.
