Drone attack targeting mosque

Cairo: Two innocent children were killed and 13 others injured in a dawn drone attack on a mosque in Sudan’s Kordofan early Wednesday. Let us tell you that civil war has been going on in Sudan for a long time in which thousands of people have lost their lives. Giving information about the incident, Sudan Doctors Network, which monitors the war, said that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces fighting the army carried out this drone attack in Al-Rahad city of North Kordofan. Network spokesman Mohammed Alsheikh told The Associated Press that the two children were reciting the Quran in the mosque at the time of the incident.

Civilians are being continuously targeted
Doctors Network said that targeting of children inside the mosque is not the first incident and civilians are being targeted again and again in such cases. The network called it a step that hurts the sanctity of religious places. There has been no statement yet on this attack from the Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces i.e. RSF. Let us tell you that there is a civil war going on in Sudan between the army and RSF since April 2023. The two were initially allies and were supposed to oversee the democratic transition after the 2019 mass movement, but rising tensions between them led to a fight.

40 thousand people have died in the war so far
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 40,000 people have been killed in this war so far and 1 crore 20 lakh people have become homeless. Aid organizations say the actual death toll could be much higher due to fighting taking place in remote areas. The Sudan Doctors Network said the attacks on places of worship were part of ‘a systematic pattern’. According to last year’s figures, more than 15 mosques have been damaged or completely destroyed since the war started. Additionally, more than 165 churches have been destroyed or closed.

24 people were killed in drone attack on Saturday
Let us tell you that drone attacks have become common in this war. Also on Saturday, RSF drones attacked a vehicle carrying displaced families in central Sudan, killing at least 24 people, including 8 children. This information was also given by Sudan Doctors Network. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has said the Kordofan region remains a ‘hotbed of unstable and hostile activities’ as both sides try to capture strategic areas.
