Bangladesh Elections 2026: Tension increases due to violence and cash recovery, allegations of intimidating voters in many areas
During the elections in Bangladesh, reports of violence, intimidation and irregularities have come to light from many districts. Army detained two BNP workers with Tk 1.02 lakh and election slips in Babuganj, Barisal. BNP student wing leader Milan Mia was attacked with a knife near the polling booth in Bogura.
Jamaat leader in Khulna-5 seat has been accused of threatening Hindu voters. Jamaat leader MD Habib was arrested and sentenced to two days in jail on charges of distributing money in exchange for votes in Old Dhaka. In Laxmipur, Taka 15 lakh was seized from the car of a Krishak Dal leader, while in Thakurgaon-3, two Jatiya Party leaders were fined. In Naria upazila of Shariatpur also, joint forces have caught a Jamaat leader with Taka 7.5 lakh and a laptop.
