Mohammad Nabi lost his temper on the field, ICC imposed heavy fine

Delhi: Last Wednesday, in the 13th match of T20 World Cup 2026, South Africa won against Afghanistan (SA vs AFG) after Double Super. Despite showing tremendous performance in this match, the Afghan team had to face defeat. Before forgetting this heart-breaking defeat, a bad news has emerged for the fans of Afghanistan. Actually, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a heavy fine on Mohammad Nabi for disobeying the instructions of the match referee.

Why did ICC take action against Nabi?

In the match against South Africa, right-handed experienced all-rounder Nabi made only one mistake, which cost him dearly. In fact, during his team’s batting, in the 14th over, Nabi got into an altercation with the on-field umpire over a complaint by Proteas team’s fast bowler Lungi Ngidi about wearing a band.

Nabi wanted Ngidi to take off the band and bowl, because due to its color he was having some trouble focusing. Despite the instructions of the umpires, Nabi continued arguing with them for a long time. Due to this action of Nabi, the ICC has found him guilty of violating Section 2.4 of its code of conduct, which relates to misconduct with the umpire during international matches.

What punishment did ICC give to Nabi?

For this offence, Nabi has been fined 15 percent of his match fee. Apart from this, the council has also added one demerit point in his disciplinary record. During this time, the good thing is that Nabi has accepted his mistake and accepted the punishment proposed by the match referee David Gilbert, due to which there was no need for any formal hearing against him.

Afghanistan is out of the tournament!

After facing defeat in two matches, Afghanistan’s journey is almost over. However, there are still two more matches to be played, but winning them will not bring any benefit to the team. From Group-D, the teams of New Zealand and South Africa will enter the Super-8.
