Rahmanullah Gurbaz is an Afghan cricketer who made his international debut in September 2019. He plays as a batsman and belongs to the Gurbaz tribe of Afghanistan.
He played in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and was Afghanistan’s top scorer in the 2018 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup with 117 runs in four matches. He also played for Afghanistan’s under-23 team in the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
Gurbaz made his T20I debut on 14 September 2019 against Zimbabwe. On 21 January 2021, he made his ODI debut against Ireland and scored 127 runs, becoming the first Afghan to score a century on ODI debut.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s Personal Life
Rahmanullah Gurbaz grew up in Khost, Afghanistan, in a large family. He initially played football before discovering cricket on TV. His family, especially his father and brother, did not support his cricket at first. Gurbaz secretly took a short-term job to buy a bat and gloves, which were later broken by his brother. He learned cricket mostly on his own, starting with tape-ball cricket.
He made his Shpageeza League debut at 16 and later his T20I debut. Gurbaz credits his improvement to national coaches like Lance Klusener and experience in T20 leagues, including the IPL and SA20.
Gurbaz lives in the UAE, while his family remains in Afghanistan. He returns home occasionally but also speaks out on social issues like women’s education. Cricket is a source of joy for Afghanistan, and Gurbaz feels a personal responsibility to bring happiness to his people through his performances. His family now supports him, and his younger brother encouraged him during a Shpageeza League century.
