Sri Lanka defeated Oman by 105 runs in the 16th match of the T-20 World Cup on Thursday, thanks to the excellent performance of the bowlers after the explosive half-centuries of Kusal Mendis (61), Pawan Ratnayake (60) and captain Dasun Shanaka (50). While chasing the huge target of 226 runs, Oman’s batsmen could not stand against the Sri Lankan bowling attack and kept losing wickets continuously.
Oman’s team could score only 120 runs for nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and lost the match by 105 runs. Wasim Ali scored 27 runs in 20 balls by hitting three sixes. Whereas Mohammad Nadeem remained till the end and played an unbeaten inning of 53 runs in 56 balls, hitting three fours and a six. The remaining batsmen could not even reach double figures.
Dushmantha Chameera and Mahish Teekshana took two wickets each for Sri Lanka. Dunit Vellalage, Dushan Hemanta and Kamindu Mendis dismissed one batsman each. Here today Oman won the toss and decided to bowl first. Sri Lanka, who came to bat, did not have a good start and lost two wickets at the score of 42. Kamil Mishara (eight) and Putham Nissanka (13) were out after scoring runs.
After this, the pair of Kusal Mendis and Pawan Ratnayake took over the innings and scored runs at a rapid pace. There was a partnership of 94 runs between the two batsmen. Jiten Ramanandi ended this partnership by bowling Pawan Ratnayake in the 14th over. Pawan Ratnayake scored (60) runs in 28 balls, hitting eight fours and one six. Shanaka, who came to bat at number five, displayed explosive batting and added 63 runs with Kusal Mendis.
Jiten Ramanandi ended this partnership by dismissing Shanaka in the 19th over. Shanaka scored 50 runs in 20 balls, hitting two fours and five sixes. Kusal Mendis was run out on the second ball of the same over. Kusal Mendis played an inning of 61 runs in 45 balls hitting seven fours. Sri Lanka scored a huge score of 225 runs for five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Kamindu Mendis remained unbeaten after scoring 19 runs in seven balls. Jiten Ramanandhi took two wickets for Oman. Jay Odedra and Sufiyan Mahmood dismissed one batsman each.
