T20 World Cup: ICC action on Mohammad Nabi, imposed 15% fine!

Nabi was found guilty of breaching Article 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Staff. This rule is related to disobeying the instructions of the umpire during an international match.

Apart from the fine, one demerit point has been added to Nabi’s disciplinary record. This was his first mistake in the last 24 months.

The incident occurred at the beginning of the 14th over of Afghanistan’s innings, when Nabi had a long argument with the umpires over bowler Lungi Ngidi’s wrist band.

Nabi has admitted his mistake and also accepted the punishment of David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Therefore there was no need for a formal hearing by the ICC.

On-field umpires Jayaraman Madangopal and Sharafuddaula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan had leveled allegations against the prophet. Level 1 violations result in a minimum official reprimand, a maximum fine of 50 percent of the player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

A very exciting match was played between Afghanistan and South Africa, the result of which came after two super overs. Batting first after losing the toss in the stipulated time, South Africa scored 187 runs. Afghanistan also got reduced to 187 runs in 19.4 overs.
