Rajpal Yadav did not get relief, will remain in jail for 4 days, Delhi HC reprimanded, next hearing on Monday

Delhi High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on the bail plea of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav till Monday. In the check bounce case, the court of Justice Swarnakanta Sharma first reprimanded the actor and clearly said that you went to jail because you did not fulfill your promise. The court has issued a notice to the complainant and directed him to file a reply to the bail application. With this decision, Rajpal Yadav will have to spend four more nights in Tihar jail.

This case is related to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav had taken a loan of Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Private Limited for his film ‘Ata Pata Lapata’. A case was registered for non-payment of loan and bounced cheque. On February 5, after rebuke from the court, Yadav surrendered in Tihar jail. He cited marriage in the family for bail, but the court did not accept it.

lawyer’s request

When the hearing resumed at 2:30 pm, Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer told the court, we tried to contact him, but could not. We have filed a bail application. Answer can be sought from the other side. The case can be postponed till Monday. I will bring something by then. The court accepted this and adjourned the case.

Court’s instructions to the complainant

The court told the complainant that you will have to file a reply to the bail petition. When I was looking at the file, there were many things about which we did not even know. He has challenged the first order in the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court did not give him any relief. Anyway, we will talk about it on Monday.

judge’s comment

In the morning hearing, Justice Swarnkanta Sharma said that you had asked for bail because of marriage in the family. The lawyer said that he will deposit the money today itself. On this the judge said – Earlier, on at least two dozen occasions, Yadav had given statements that he would fulfill his promise and give the money, but every time he failed to do so.

strict stance of the court

During the hearing, the court noted that both the lawyer and Rajpal Yadav had given statements about giving the money. Justice Sharma said, you went to jail because you did not fulfill your promise. You first make up your mind and this matter will be heard again today at 2:30 PM.

Trouble started in 2010

This story started from 2010, when Rajpal Yadav decided to make ‘Ata Pata Lapata’ as a director. Borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects for the film and promised to return Rs 8 crore. There were 170 actors in the film, but it flopped miserably. The loan was lost, the checks bounced and the company filed a case.

Karkardooma court notice

Karkardooma court sent several notices, but Yadav did not appear for a long time. He was detained for 10 days in 2013 for giving a wrong affidavit, in which he remained in jail for four days from 3 to 6 December. Delhi High Court later suspended the sentence. The lower court sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment, which was challenged in the High Court. There was a temporary stay on the sentence in June 2024, because Yadav is not a habitual offender and a compromise was advised.

Got last chance in January

This year, in January 2026, the court gave the last chance. The lawyer said that arrangements for Rs 50 lakh have been made and asked for a week’s time. Justice Swarnakanta Sharma refused to extend the period of surrender. He said that breach of promise in check bounce is serious. Many chances were given, but the trust of the court was broken. The court ordered surrender by 4 pm on 4th February.
