No DNA match, political allegations intensify… Patna student death case now in the hands of CBI
Patna: A major development has come to light in the case of suspicious death of a student preparing for NEET in the capital Patna. According to sources, the investigation of this high-profile case has now been taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). CBI has formally taken over the case from Bihar Police and started the investigation process.
According to the information, the original case number of this case registered at Chitragupta Nagar police station was 14/26 (dated 09/01/2026). New case number after takeover by CBI RC0232026A0007 (dated 12/02/2026) Has been given.
What is the whole matter?
In January, a student from Jehanabad, who was preparing for NEET by staying in Shambhu Girls Hostel located in Chitragupt Nagar police station area of Patna, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. After the incident, there was a sharp reaction at political and social level across the state.
The family members had made serious allegations against the police administration. After this, Bihar Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case.
Events changed after post mortem report
The case took a new turn when the post mortem report came out. The report did not rule out the possibility of sexual assault. During the investigation, information about suspicious biological samples found on the clothes of the deceased also came to light.
According to sources, samples of family members and other related people were taken for DNA testing, but till now no one’s DNA has matched. This aspect has made the matter more complicated.
Questions raised on hospitals and administration
Questions were also raised about the role of some hospitals in the capital in this case. After the incident, various political parties demonstrated on the streets. The family members of the deceased had met the state DGP and demanded a fair investigation.
The next day, State Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary had informed through social media that it has been recommended to investigate the matter by CBI.
The matter reached the assembly
During the budget session of Bihar, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Rabri Devi had alleged that a minister’s son may be involved in this case and efforts are being made to influence the investigation. However, Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary had said that if there is any concrete information to be shared, the government will take action within 24 hours.
