Srikanth got angry on Nasir Hussain’s comment, said- Remember 2003? Where was the equality then?

Tezzbuzz Desk- The boycott controversy related to T20 World Cup 2026 has taken a new turn. After the comments of former England captain Nasser Hussain, former Indian cricket opener Kris Srikkanth has given a sharp reaction. Srikanth reminded Nasir of the 2003 World Cup and asked why he did not remember the issue of equality or discrimination when England had the advantage.

Nasir Hussain had supported the stand of Pakistan and Bangladesh in a podcast, saying that the ICC should treat all teams equally. He raised the question that if India had refused to play just before a tournament, would the ICC have taken an equally strict stance?

“Everyone wants equality. India has money and power, but with power comes responsibility,” Hussain said.

Chris Srikkanth, replying on his YouTube channel, said, “Nasser Hussain was the captain of England during the 2003 World Cup. At that time, England had refused to go to Zimbabwe and Kenya citing security reasons. Due to that decision, England was out of the tournament and Kenya reached the quarter-finals. Then he had taken his decisions, why the question now?”

He further said, “You have one rule and we have one rule – this cannot happen.” Srikkanth also said that a major part of ICC’s earnings come from Indian spectators, so India’s influence is natural. “In every era some country or the other dominates. Earlier it was England, now it is India,” he said.

Srikkanth welcomed Pakistan’s decision to play against India. He said, “The India-Pakistan match is not just about cricket but is related to the emotions of crores of people. If Pakistan had not played, it would have suffered the most. It is important to keep sports above politics.”

The controversy started when Pakistan announced to boycott the group stage match against India after Bangladesh withdrew from the tournament. However, later the Pakistan government changed its decision and allowed the team to play.

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar targeted Nasir Hussain without taking his name. He wrote that some “old powers” are not able to accept that India is now the power center of world cricket.

Gavaskar also reminded that India had already refused to go to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025, after which the ICC had opted for a neutral venue. He clearly said, “Every sensible person in the world knows that no Indian government will allow its players to be sent to Pakistan.”
