Doordarshan’s famous news reader Sarla Maheshwari passed away recently. His death is being described as the end of a golden era of TV journalism. All India Mahila Congress remembered Sarla Maheshwari on Twitter, saying that her credibility and decency will remain an inspiration for generations to come. He also prayed for the peace of the departed soul. His family informed about his funeral through a post, stating that his funeral will be held on February 12 at 4 pm at Nigam Bodh Ghat, Delhi.

Famous Doordarshan anchor Shammi Narang also condoled the demise of Sarla Maheshwari. He wrote in a post, “I am deeply saddened to receive the sad news of the demise of my former co-news anchor Sarla Maheshwari in Doordarshan. She was a living example of decency and humility. Along with her beauty, she also had a very generous heart. Her deep command of language and wealth of knowledge made her special. She enlivened whatever environment she was in. I pray that God grants eternal peace to her soul.”
