ICC fines Indian team for this mistake in the match against Sri Lanka Gujarati

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has penalized the Indian team for slow over rate in the first match of the tri-series against Sri Lanka. This match was played in Colombo in which Harmanpreet Kaur’s team won by nine wickets. ICC had fined five percent of the match fee on the Indian team. Giving this information, the global cricket body had said that, under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Team Support Staff (relating to minimum over rate), players are fined five percent of their match fee for failing to bowl each over in the stipulated time.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur pleaded guilty to the crime and the proposed punishment, so there was no need for a formal trial. On-field umpires Anna Harris and Nimali Perera, third umpire Lyndon Hannibal and fourth umpire Dedunu de Silva had made the allegations. The Indian team has won the first two matches of the triangular series. Due to rain in Colombo the first match was reduced to 39 overs. After opting to bat after losing the toss, Sri Lankan women’s team scored 147 runs losing 10 wickets in 38.1 overs. In reply, India scored 149 runs losing one wicket in 29.4 overs and won the match with 56 balls remaining. Off-spinner Rana and off-spinner Charani completed their quota of eight overs and took three wickets for 31 runs and two wickets for 26 runs respectively. Experienced off-spinner Deepti Sharma also took two wickets for 22 runs in 5.1 overs.
