Electricity bill of more than 90% houses of Punjab is zero, yet Punjab Electricity Corporation is in profit: Anurag Dhanda

Even after 90 percent of the people of Punjab have zero electricity bill, the Electricity Corporation of Punjab is running in profit. This is the claim of Aam Aadmi Party’s national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda. He said that the AAP government of Punjab has continuously taken many steps for the general public, as a result of which most of the people in the state have zero electricity bill. That means they had to pay for any kind of electricity usage.

The special thing is that even after the electricity bills of most of the people are reduced, the electricity corporation of the state is running in profit. Not only this, the government has done all this work in just 5 years. Whereas this is not the case in Haryana.

Anurag Dhanda claimed that there is an accumulated loss of Rs 27,915 crore on the electricity distribution corporations of Haryana and the total borrowing has reached Rs 20,311 crore. This situation shows that the government could neither carry out financial reforms nor provide relief to the consumers. The common family of Haryana is troubled by expensive tariffs, heavy fixed charges and continuously increasing electricity bills.

Punjab Electricity Corporation earned profit of Rs 2600 crore

Anurag Dhanda said that the condition of electricity corporations in Haryana continued to deteriorate. Instead of reducing the deficit, borrowing increased and its burden was passed directly on the public. On the contrary, giving the example of the Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab, he said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has earned a profit of Rs 2600 crore in the financial year 2024-25, which is a big increase compared to previous years. In the national ranking, PSPCL has secured second position in the country with A+ grade. This shows that the power sector can be made profitable with the right intentions and transparent administration.

Free electricity up to 300 units under “Roshan Punjab Mission”

Not only this, Dhanda also said that under ‘Roshan Punjab Mission’, up to 300 units of free electricity is being provided in the state. He claimed that more than 90 percent of domestic consumers in Punjab have got the benefit of zero bill and lakhs of families have got direct relief.
