Attention If the mobile network suddenly disappears then it should be an alarm bell, 11 lakh rupees were lost within minutes in Mumbai
eSIM Scam: In today’s digital era, sudden shutdown of mobile network can be not only a technical fault but also a sign of a big cyber net. A shocking case that came to light in Mumbai has proved this. Here a woman lost Rs 11 lakh in a few minutes. The reason was e-SIM fraud, which put his mobile number in the possession of thugs. The I4C unit of the Home Ministry has issued an alert to mobile users across the country after this incident. e-SIM and SIM swap scams have now become a rapidly growing digital threat.
How the trap of e-SIM fraud was created
According to I4C, this case is a case of e-SIM fraud, which is a new and more dangerous form of traditional SIM swap scam. The fraudsters call pretending to be customer care officers of the telecom company. They obtain necessary personal information from the user by pretending to be a network problem, SIM upgrade or e-SIM conversion.
On the basis of this information they get a new SIM or e-SIM issued. As soon as the new SIM is activated, the original user’s mobile network is shut down and the number goes under the control of fraudsters. After this, bank OTP and verification messages start reaching the criminals directly.
This is how the bank account became empty as soon as the number came into hand
The same game was played with the woman from Mumbai. Necessary details were taken in the name of solving network problems and SIM upgrade. Within a short time his phone network got shut down. On the other hand, the fraudsters started receiving all the bank OTPs and alerts coming on their numbers. After completing the banking verification through these OTP, the fraudsters withdrew Rs 11 lakh from the account. This entire fraud was carried out in a very short time.

Government’s strict warning
Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) has clearly stated that telecom companies themselves do not call and ask for SIM upgrade or e-SIM conversion. If there is any SIM or network related issue, the customer should personally contact the official customer care or store.
As per DoT rules, banking calls generally come from 1600 series and marketing calls come from 140 series. Do not immediately trust suspicious calls coming from normal 10-digit mobile numbers or landlines.
