In this budget presented in Parliament on February 1, special focus has been placed on Micro, Small and Medium Industries (MSME), which contribute about 30 percent to the country’s GDP and provide employment to more than 11 crore people. The Finance Minister has announced to increase credit availability for MSMEs, simplify rules and provide targeted incentives so that small industries can connect to global supply chains and expand.
He said that MSMEs are the backbone of India’s development journey and this budget will provide them the necessary support for innovation and employment generation. Skill development and employment generation are also among the major priorities of the budget. The government has proposed new initiatives to train youth in emerging sectors such as green energy, advanced manufacturing and digital technology. There is also a plan to promote partnership between industry and educational institutions, so that the youth can get better employment opportunities.
In the field of infrastructure also, the government has emphasized on next generation projects. It is proposed to increase investment in digital connectivity, renewable energy corridors, logistics networks and urban development. Apart from this, health and education have also been given priority in the budget. The target has been set to provide better facilities to remote and backward areas through increasing budget and reforms in these areas.
Economic experts believe that this budget has come at a time when India is trying to strengthen its position among the fastest growing large economies of the world amid global uncertainties and changing supply chains. The government has reiterated its emphasis on development-oriented spending as well as financial discipline.
