Pakistan hockey team faces administrative problems on Australia tour
Islamabad/Canberra. Pakistan national hockey team faced serious disciplinary challenges during its tour of Australia. When the team reached Canberra, they had no hotel bookings, causing the players and officials to wait for several hours.
Problems encountered in team booking
The team had gone to Australia to play the second leg of the FIH Pro League, while the matches were scheduled in Hobart. According to sources, rooms were booked for the players at a four-star hotel in Canberra, and it was reported that all payments had already been made.
Hotel booking status
However, when the team reached the hotel management clarified that there was no booking in their name. The reason behind this problem is said to be that the reservation was canceled due to non-payment, due to which the players did not get the opportunity to rest.
Coach information and waiting
The team’s head coach, Tahir Zaman, tried to inform the authorities of the situation, but could not immediately contact them due to the international time zone. After waiting for several hours, the hotel management made limited rooms available, forcing some players to stay in the same room.
National game despite mismanagement
Hockey is the national game of Pakistan, yet the team struggled to meet basic needs. Despite the disorganized stay and fatigue, the team went on to play the next day, losing 2–3.
There were problems in Argentina also
According to sources, even during the first phase of the Pro League played in Argentina, the players did not receive their daily allowances on time, due to which they had to face financial problems.
Team manager controversy
The team has gone on this tour without its regular manager. Former Olympian Anjum Saeed was removed for indiscipline. According to reports, the decision was taken after smoking during the return journey and altercation with airport security officials.
local community support
The team in Canberra was eventually helped by some members of the local Pakistani community. In terms of sporting performance, Pakistan has lost all its six matches in the Pro League, due to which the impact of off-field disturbances on their playing ability is clearly visible.
