Opposition protest in favor of PTI outside Parliament House in Pakistan from today
Islamabad. Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan and Tehreek Tahafuz Ain-e-Pakistan (TTAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai has announced that the opposition parties will start a sit-in outside the Parliament House from today. Achakzai made the announcement to reporters in the capital Islamabad late on Thursday and said the decision was taken at a meeting of opposition leaders.
According to the report of Geo News, earlier in the meeting held in the capital, it was unanimously decided that the protest will continue until permission is given to reach jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan and his treatment is confirmed to the satisfaction of his party and family.
Achakzai told the media late night that the protest outside the Parliament House would remain peaceful. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and PTI chairman Gauhar Ali Khan and Asad Qaiser were also present with him.
He also made it clear that the demands of the opposition alliance will be presented to everyone only during the dharna. “We will put forward our demands at the protest tomorrow (Friday),” he said. The opposition leader said that until these demands are accepted, the protest will continue indefinitely. He warned that if anything bad happens during this period, it will be the responsibility of the government. Mahmood Khan Achakzai said the protest would begin peacefully on Friday morning. He has appealed to the opposition MPs and supporters to join the protest and demonstration.
It is noteworthy that Imran Khan is in jail since August 2023. He is facing many cases ranging from corruption to terrorism. The protest focuses on concerns related to the health of Imran, who is in jail. Especially regarding access to them and their treatment. The entire opposition has mobilized after the seven-page report submitted to the Supreme Court. The opposition says that according to this report, about 85 percent of the vision in Imran Khan’s right eye has been lost. On February 10, the Supreme Court had appointed PTI lawyer Salman Safdar as amicus curiae (friend of the court). He was directed to meet the former Prime Minister lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and submit the report on February 11.
The judicial directions came during the hearing of a case related to the living conditions of the PTI founder in Adiala jail. The case was heard by a bench of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan. Imran suffered from continuous blurred vision for months. He repeatedly informed the jail authorities about this, but no action was taken. This has been revealed in the report.
The report said a specialist at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences eventually discovered the blood clot that caused the significant damage. The opposition alleges that the government committed criminal negligence in matters related to Imran’s health. Senate opposition leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said that the PTI founder’s vision has become very blurred. The government has committed a big crime with them.
