Vikram Bhatt and wife granted interim bail, relief in fraud case

Important decision of Supreme Court

Mumbai: The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to film producer Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari in a fraud case. He has got relief from the fraud charges of Rs 30 crore. The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalaya Bagchi has given this order.

Court’s comments and next hearing

The Court said that such cases should not be used to recover money and everyone cannot be put in jail. The next hearing of the case will be on 19 February 2026. The case pertains to Udaipur, Rajasthan, where Dr. Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF, had filed a complaint in November 2025.

Fraud charges and bail

It is alleged that Dr. Murdia had invested money to make a biopic on his late wife. They were promised high returns, but the money was not used in film production but was embezzled through fake bills. After this complaint, he was arrested from Mumbai on 7 December 2025 and sent to Udaipur jail. The Rajasthan High Court had earlier rejected their bail plea, after which the couple approached the Supreme Court.

Vikram Bhatt’s film identity

The Supreme Court issued notice on the petition and also made Dr. Murdia a party. An order has been given to fill the bail bond for release on interim bail. The court clarified that this is only an interim relief and further investigation will continue. Vikram Bhatt is known for successful films like ‘Ghulam’, ‘Raaz’, ‘1920’. This matter has become a challenge for his career. After being in jail for the last two months, they will now be able to come out. This incident has again given rise to discussion on the risks associated with film financing and investment in Bollywood.
