India’s most influential address changed today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new integrated complex of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), which will now be known as ‘Seva Tirtha’. For the first time since Independence, the PMO has been shifted, and this complex with modern and state-of-the-art facilities has been designed to strengthen the consolidation of executive departments and enhance administrative efficiency.
To mark what the government has called a period of change in India’s administrative set-up, the Prime Minister also released a commemorative coin of Rs 100. At around 2 pm, the Prime Minister announced the name ‘Seva Tirtha’ and later inaugurated Seva Tirtha as well as Dutta Bhavan 1 and 2. There will be many important ministries in these buildings. According to officials, this project is necessary to create a modern, efficient and citizen-centric administration.
For decades, many ministries were functioning in old and dilapidated buildings in the Central Vista area. This led to problems in coordination and huge maintenance costs. The new complex will bring all the necessary offices under one roof for better coordination. According to the government, this integration will speed up decision making, reduce expenses and increase transparency.
Seva Teerth will have three essential executive institutions:
Seva Teerth-1: Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)
Seva Teerth-2: National Security Council Secretariat
Seva Teerth-3: Cabinet Secretariat
Earlier, these institutions were working at different places. Now, their coming together under one complex will strengthen coordination among high-level plans.
Dutva Bhawan 1 and 2 will house these specific ministries:
Ministry of Finance
Ministry of Defence
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
Ministry of Corporate Affairs
Ministry of Education
Ministry of Culture
Ministry of Law and Justice
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting
Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers
Ministry of Tribal Affairs
Digital and citizen-centric features
This will improve coordination between ministries and make it easier for citizens to access services.
The new complex has digitally connected offices, well-maintained public interaction areas and a central reception system. The advanced digital system will promote e-governance and transparent administration.
The building is built as per 4-star GRIHA standards, which include sustainable energy, water conservation, efficient waste disposal and energy efficient design. This will help in reducing the impact on the environment. Smart access controls, integrated surveillance systems and state-of-the-art emergency response systems ensure security while maintaining accessibility for citizens.
The existing buildings of South Block and North Block, after being vacated, will be converted into a public museum named ‘Yuge Yugen Bharat Museum’. For the development of this planned museum, a technical cooperation agreement has been signed with the Museum Development Agency of France on 19 December 2024.
