Hrithik shuts down rumours of replacing Ranveer Singh in Farhan Akhtar film: “Was never approached for Don 3”

Ranveer Singh is riding high on the success of Dhurandhar and will next be seen in Dhurandhar 2. However, amid the film’s massive success, the shoot for the sequel has also grabbed headlines. It has been widely reported that Ranveer Singh has exited Farhan Akhtar’s directorial venture, the iconic Don franchise instalment, Don 3.

Ever since the news went viral, several conspiracy theories have flooded the internet. Some reports suggested that Farhan Akhtar demanded ₹40 crore from Ranveer Singh. Reddit reports even claimed that Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani alleged that Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3 caused financial losses of nearly Rs 40 crore, and they are now seeking compensation. The actor, on the other hand, alleged that the makers attempted to replace him with Hrithik Roshan, given that Hrithik and Farhan had previously collaborated on Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

Hrithik Roshan denies being part of Don 3

In a recent interview with Variety India, Hrithik Roshan clarified that he was never approached for Don 3, contradicting Ranveer Singh’s claims. Roshan said, “What started off as just a rumour has now taken a life of its own, and it’s important to set the record straight. I would like to categorically clarify that I was never approached for ‘Don 3’ at any given time. I request the media to steer clear of any such unverified reports.”

Ranveer Singh reacts to Don 3 controversy

According to Bollywood Hungama, Ranveer blamed Farhan Akhtar’s production house, Excel Entertainment, for being unprofessional. “Ranveer blamed Excel Entertainment for unprofessionalism and not being serious about taking Don 3 on floors. He stated that Farhan Akhtar never had a bound script in place and that, as an actor, he prefers to work only with fully developed material,” the report stated.

Sources also suggested that the script was incomplete, and Ranveer was not connecting with it. “He further alleged that Excel was exploring the possibility of getting Hrithik Roshan on board and only re-approached him after the success of Dhurandhar, to capitalise on his momentum,” the source added.

Farhan Akhtar and his production house have denied these claims. Don 3 is the third instalment in the iconic Don franchise. For the uninitiated, it was originally announced in August 2023, with Ranveer Singh set to play the new-age Don.

It has been reported that Ranveer walked out of the project shortly after the release of Dhurandhar.

Reportedly, Ranveer blamed Excel Entertainment for unprofessionalism and claimed Farhan was an ‘absentee director,’ and he had other claims on his time rather than taking Don 3 to the floors.

Work front

Hrithik had a cameo in the franchise earlier, appearing in Don 2 (2011). Hrithik is gearing up to step into the direction with Krrish 4, while Ranveer has Dhurandhar 2, slated to release next month, followed by a debut in the genre of a zombie-actioner with Pralay.
