The tussle over leadership in Karnataka Congress intensifies again, Home Minister G Parameshwara gives strict warning

digital desk- The ongoing speculation regarding change of leadership within Karnataka’s ruling Congress government has once again intensified. Although the top leaders of the party are repeatedly saying that there is no crisis in the government, the internal rhetoric has not allowed the controversy to subside. Meanwhile, State Home Minister G Parameshwara has openly expressed his displeasure and said that now this issue has to be stopped immediately and the party should focus on governance and development. While giving a clear message to the party leaders and MLAs on Friday, G Parameshwara said that the continuous rhetoric is damaging the image of the government.

Mallikarjun Kharge has shown strictness

He said that even Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has shown strictness on this issue and has instructed the leaders to remain silent. Despite this, some leaders are publicly giving statements on the change of leadership, which shows indiscipline. Parameshwara stressed that the people have given the mandate to Congress for development and good governance and not for internal politics. He said that people’s expectations are linked to the government and in such a situation the party should avoid bringing its internal differences on the public platform. He also indicated that if needed, he himself would discuss the issue with the party high command, so that a permanent solution to the dispute could be found.

Tension increased due to increasing rhetoric between Siddaramaiah and Shivkumar camps

The tussle over leadership in Karnataka Congress intensified after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son and Legislative Council member Yathindra publicly said that his father will complete his five-year term. This statement was considered a big signal in political circles and caused a stir within the party. On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s supporters are continuously claiming that he will hold the post of Chief Minister in future. He says that a large number of MLAs are with Shivkumar and when the time comes, change of leadership will be a natural process. These statements have further fueled the discussion between the two camps within the party.

Completed his tenure only last year

It is noteworthy that the Congress government had completed half of its five-year tenure on November 20 last year. Since then, speculations about change of leadership have been surfacing from time to time. Although the party leadership has not officially confirmed any change, the continuous rhetoric has definitely indicated that internal discussions are going on. Political analysts believe that if the party does not control this controversy in time, the opposition may get an opportunity to attack the government. At present, all eyes are on the Congress high command, which will decide when and how to put a final end to the ongoing speculations regarding leadership.
