Akali Dal ready for 2027, 40 rallies till Baisakhi, which issues will the party raise?
In Punjab, the tenure of the current assembly will end early next year and elections will be held for the next assembly. Although there is still time for elections, Shiromani Akali Dal, which has been out of power for a long time, has already sounded the election bugle for the 2027 assembly elections. In this regard, the party is going to start a special campaign from 17th February.
The party has named this campaign ‘Save Punjab, Bring Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal Campaign’. Under this campaign, the party will organize rallies across Punjab. These rallies will be presided over by party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal himself. There is enthusiasm among the workers due to this campaign of the party and the party leaders also hope that the party will get the benefit of this campaign in the 2027 assembly elections.

40 rallies till Baisakhi
The party now seems to be in action mode. A meeting regarding these rallies was also held in the party’s Chandigarh office, in which the outline of the rallies was finalized. Senior party leader Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that the party will organize 40 rallies till Baisakhi. He said that out of 40 party rallies, 28 would be held by March 31 and the other rallies would be held by April 12. Till Baisakhi, the party will organize a total of 40 rallies to present its case to the public and attack the current Aam Aadmi Party government.
What did Sukhbir Badal say?
Party chief Sukhbir Badal said about this campaign of the party that the party is capable of raising the issues of Punjab. He said that through these rallies the party will raise the burning issues of Punjab and present its vision on them before the public. Sukhbir Badal claimed that only SAD is capable of fulfilling the aspirations of Punjab and the party will get the support of the people.
Which issues will the party raise?
Shiromani Akali Dal is continuously lagging behind in the politics of Punjab. In such a situation, the party seems to be going back to its old aggressive form. After breaking the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the party is now again seen moving towards the politics of the 90s.
In these rallies, the party will prominently raise the demand of giving Chandigarh to Punjab. Along with this, it will also put pressure on the Central and Punjab governments to resolve the water issue of Punjab. SAD will attack the Punjab government on the issue of law and order and drugs. Along with this, the party will prominently raise the problems of farmers and questions related to religious institutions.
Will she contest the elections alone?
Shiromani Akali Dal ruled Punjab for decades but after 2017, the graph of the party is continuously falling. A major change in the party’s politics came in 2020 when the party decided to separate from the Bharatiya Janata Party on the issue of farmers. Farmer laws were withdrawn but the alliance was not formed again. After poor performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and 2022 assembly elections, the party is now looking to make a comeback. In such a situation, party leaders are talking about alliance with BJP. Party MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal also described the alliance as beneficial for both the parties but also put forward some conditions. BJP currently seems to be adopting the strategy of wait and watch. In such a situation, Akali Dal has decided to start the campaign alone.
