New Delhi: An important chapter in the world of Indian television has ended. Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, elder son of Ramanand Sagar, the famous director of historical serials like ‘Ramayana’, passed away this morning. The Sagar family confirmed this sad news on their Instagram account. Anand carried forward his father’s legacy and played an important role in popularizing mythology among the new generation. His last rites took place in the evening at Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai.

Sagar family said in a post shared on social media that Anand ji passed away peacefully. The family described him as a person full of dignity and values. He said his kindness and gentle nature touched the hearts of many people. The last rites took place on 13 February 2026 at 4:30 pm at the Pawan Hans cremation ground, where prayers were offered for the peace of his soul.

After the demise of Ramanand Sagar in 2005, Anand took over the responsibility of Sagar Arts. He worked to re-telecast ‘Ramayana’ and other classic serials in a new form. Anand played an active role in creative supervision, production and management. His aim was that the Sagar brand should always be associated with faith and devotion.

When ‘Ramayana’ was re-telecasted on Doordarshan during the lockdown of 2020, it gained immense popularity among the viewers. Anand contributed significantly in making this project successful. Lakhs of people enjoyed this epic sitting at home and appreciated their hard work.
