Congress storm in Telangana civic elections, BRS giving tough fight; Big blow to BJP
Telangana: The latest election trends coming from the urban areas of Telangana have created a stir in the politics of the state. As the counting of votes for Municipal Corporations and Municipal Corporations elections is progressing, the picture is becoming clear as to whom the urban voters are seen standing with this time. The initial figures are a relief for the ruling Congress, while it seems to be a matter of concern for the opposition parties.
Counting of votes continues at 123 centers
Counting of votes cast for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations of the state started at 8 am on Friday at 123 centres. There was commotion outside the counting centers since morning. In the initial trends, the ruling Congress took the lead. In many places, party candidates are leading or have registered victory.
According to the latest figures, Congress is said to be leading or winning on more than 900 seats. Whereas the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) is ahead on more than 500 seats. Bharatiya Janata Party does not seem to be getting the expected success and is leading in more than 150 seats. In the trends till 10.45 am, Congress was ahead in 300 wards, BRS in 170 and BJP in 48 wards. These figures are being considered as an indication of the trends of urban voters.
Tight security arrangements and heavy voting
About 12 thousand policemen have been deployed to maintain law and order during the counting of votes. The Election Commission has imposed prohibitory orders around the counting centers and the entire process is being monitored through webcasting. More than 73 percent voting was recorded in this election, which shows the increasing political awareness in urban areas. Experts believe that voting on such a large scale gives important signals for future politics.
Results from different regions
Congress seems to be getting an edge in the initial results of some municipalities. In Ashwarapeta, Congress got 17 seats, while BRS got 2 seats and BJP got 1 seat. In Edulapuram, Congress was ahead in 11 wards, while CPM and BRS had limited success. Congress also performed strongly in Vaira and Sathupalli. In Kallur and Madhira also, the party took lead in many wards. At the same time, the contest looked tough in Ranga Reddy district, where there was a close contest between BRS and Congress.
Semi-final before the assembly elections!
These elections are not just being considered as local body elections, but are being considered as the semi-finals before the upcoming assembly elections. Political analysts say that the trends seen in urban areas can decide the direction of the state’s politics in the future. According to sources, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had recently met the party leadership in Delhi and expressed confidence of good results.
BJP also campaigned vigorously to present itself as an alternative to Congress and BRS, but initial trends do not appear to be in its favor. The final results are still awaited, but current trends have made it clear that the contest in urban politics of Telangana has taken an interesting turn. The picture will become more clear in the coming hours.
