Pak hockey team faces disgrace abroad, players had to wait for hours due to cancellation of hotel booking

Islamabad/Canberra. Pakistan national hockey team faced serious administrative irregularities during its tour of Australia. According to the information, when the team reached Canberra, their booking was not found in the hotel, due to which the players and officials had to wait on the road for several hours.

The team is on Australia tour to play the second leg of the FIH Pro League, with the matches scheduled in Hobart. According to team sources, the players were informed that rooms have been booked in a four-star hotel in Canberra and it was told that all payments have already been made.

But when the team reached the hotel management made it clear that there was no booking in their name. It is being told that the reservation was canceled due to non-payment. Because of this, the players who arrived after a long journey did not even get a place to rest.

  • The team’s head coach Tahir Zaman tried to convey the situation to the authorities, but due to the time zone difference, he could not contact immediately. Later, after waiting for several hours, the hotel management provided limited rooms, due to which two to three players had to stay in the same room.

Despite being a national game, misbehavior

Hockey is the national game of Pakistan, yet the team struggled to access basic facilities. Due to unorganized stay and fatigue, the team had to play the match the very next day, in which it lost 2-3.

Sources also say that even during the first phase of the Pro League played in Argentina, the players did not receive their daily allowances on time, due to which they had to face financial problems abroad.

Team manager controversy also became the reason

The team has gone on this tour without its regular manager. Former Olympian Anjum Saeed was dropped after alleged indiscipline. According to reports, the action followed smoking on the flight and an altercation with airport security officials during the return journey.

    Local community helped

The team stranded in Canberra was eventually provided assistance by some people from the local Pakistani community.
Talking about sports performance, Pakistan has lost all its six matches of Pro League, due to which the effect of chaos outside the field is clearly visible on the game as well.
