Those with weak hearts should not watch ‘Tu Ya Main’, Shanaya Kapoor’s film is full of thrill.

Tu Yaa Main Review: “Tu Yaa Main” starring Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gaurav is such a film, watching the climax of which you will find yourself stuck there even after taking your eyes off the screen. The swimming pool of a deserted hotel, two young faces trapped in it, Avni Shah and Marathi rapper Maruti Kadam and a dangerous crocodile swimming in the same water. There are some moments in the film when it really feels like breathing has stopped. This is the biggest success of this film.

In this survival thriller of director Bejoy Nambiar, there is not only fear, but also the collision of two completely different worlds. The story of the film is inspired by the Thai film “The Pool”, but an attempt has been made to keep it in a desi tone. Avni i.e. Shanaya Kapoor is a glamorous social media star, in whose life the world of Instagram reels and followers is everything. Whereas Maruti aka ‘Aala Flopara’ i.e. Adarsh Gaurav is the rapper of Nalasopara, whose dreams are breathing in small rooms and big intentions. Along with the attraction in the meeting of the two, there is also that thrill which often attracts people from different backgrounds towards each other.

The first part of the film “Tu Ya Main” revolves around the light-hearted rhythm of love. The Goa road trip, the fine line between dreams and classism, and the cultural differences reflected in the conversations, all make the film a romantic drama. Maruti jokingly says that his life has turned from ‘Gully Boy to Sairat’, which humorously describes the distance between the two.

After the interval the story suddenly changes. A deserted hotel, an empty swimming pool and these two characters trapped in it, no longer appear to be a romance but a struggle for survival. It becomes no longer just a fight with a crocodile, but the question becomes whether these two people, who are so socially different, will be able to stand with each other in this crisis?

The cinematography of the film is fantastic. The camera closely captures the restlessness both under and above the water. Despite the limited location, the views never seem flat. Limited space makes suffocation and tension more acute.

Adarsh Gaurav emerges as the backbone of the film. There is a genuineness in his expressions, body language and dialogue delivery. He looks fantastic as Maruti not just a struggling rapper but a young man who is insecure and sensitive from within. Shanaya Kapoor has also looked good as per her character.

This film is not completely perfect. The whole part seems a bit slow. But the specialty of the film is that whenever the story wavers, some suspenseful twist takes over. The most important thing is that ‘Tu Ya Main’ does not remain just a ‘creature thriller’. It also shows classism, the difference between the artificial world of social media and the realities of real life.
