Will rain become a villain? Sri Lanka issues weather warning on India-Pakistan clash

The shadow of rain is looming over this great match between India and Pakistan. This blockbuster match of Group A of T20 World Cup 2026 is going to be held at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday 15th February. But the Sri Lankan Meteorological Department has issued a warning. There is a possibility of a low pressure area forming in the south-eastern Bay of Bengal around February 15. Due to which the match may be disrupted or the entire match may be washed out.

The victory of both Team India and Pakistan in this high-voltage match of the tournament can strengthen their Super 8 qualification. Everyone’s eyes are fixed on the weather updates before the match, because it is one of the biggest hurdles in cricket.

Sri Lanka Meteorological Department’s warning

Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology has issued an alert through its Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre. The statement said, a low pressure area is likely to form in the south-eastern Bay of Bengal around February 15. Due to this low pressure area, the possibility of rain has increased, which can cause major disruption during or before the match.

According to Accuweather, there is a possibility of rain two hours before the start of the match i.e. around 5 pm. However, the chances of rain during the match are said to be less. Playing conditions in Colombo will be cloudy, with the temperature expected to be around 27 degrees Celsius and humidity in the 70s.

Both teams would like to move ahead by remaining unbeaten

India and Pakistan would like to continue their unbeaten journey so far in this tournament. India started their campaign with a nervous win against America, where Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant innings saved the team. After this, a big win of 93 runs was achieved over Namibia. Pakistan faced a big threat against Netherlands in the opening match, but bounced back with a spectacular win over America and registered two consecutive wins.

So far, there have been 8 matches between India and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, out of which India has won 7. Pakistan’s only win came in 2021 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Victory in this match will give psychological edge to India, while Pakistan will try to change history. Both teams are desperate to secure a place in the Super 8.
