PM Modi will give a gift worth crores today… Now planes will land on the highway, North East’s first emergency landing strip inaugurated
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Assam on 14 February 2026, where he will inaugurate Northeast India’s first highway-based Emergency Landing Facility (ELF). This will be a historic moment when PM Modi himself will land in a C-130J Super Hercules aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on a special strip of National Highway-37 (NH-37) at Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh district.
MORAN ELF: New force of defense and emergency
– This 4.2 km long reinforced concrete dual-use strip on NH-127 (Dibrugarh-Moran segment) has been developed in collaboration with IAF.
This facility, the first of its kind in the North-East, will provide landing-takeoff facilities to fighter jets (Rafale, Sukhoi, Tejas), transport aircraft (Globemaster up to 74 tonnes) and helicopters in case of emergencies, wartime needs, natural disasters or strategic operations.
– Being about 300 km away from the China Border (LAC), it will strengthen defense preparedness.
– Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on Twitter: “From trials to successful operations, a new chapter of connectivity and strategic strength is beginning. Assam is proud of this national contribution.”
The thrill of a grand aerial display
After landing at Moran ELF, PM Modi will witness a spectacular aerial display by about 16 IAF aircraft. This will include fighter jets, transport planes and helicopters. Some aircraft may also land or fly-past the highway strip. This will be a grand display of defense capability in the North-East.
Inauguration of development projects worth Rs 5,450 crore+
After the Moran event, PM Modi will reach Guwahati, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several important projects:
1- Kumar Bhaskar Verma Bridge – 6-lane extruded bridge (cost around ₹3,000 crore) over the Brahmaputra river, which will connect Guwahati to North Guwahati and significantly reduce travel time.
2- National Data Center for North-Eastern Region – Inaugurated in Amingaon, which will make digital services safer and faster.
3- Inauguration of IIM Guwahati – Will give a new direction to higher education and management studies.
4- Green signal to 225 electric buses – Under PM-eBus Sewa scheme (100 buses covered in Guwahati), which will promote eco-friendly public transport.
Double gift of development and defense in one day
This visit will prove to be a milestone for Assam in connectivity, defense preparedness, digital infrastructure, education and green mobility. This visit of PM Modi is connecting the North-East more strongly with the national mainstream.
