Controversy over Yash’s film ‘Toxic’, questions raised on religiosity and obscenity

Teaser of film ‘Toxic’ surrounded in controversies

New Delhi. Yash’s famous film ‘Toxic’ has given rise to controversies since its teaser release. After the Women’s Commission’s objection on the sex scene shown in this teaser, now the National Christian Federation (NCF) has also expressed its displeasure. They allege that in the teaser, after showing a sex scene outside the cemetery, the scene of firing inside the cemetery has been presented, which hurts religious sentiments. In particular, the inaccurate depiction of the statue of ‘Archangel Michael’ has been said to be problematic. NCF has demanded the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to remove this teaser from YouTube and other digital platforms.

Women’s Commission’s strong objection

The Women’s Commission has also termed the sex scene shown in the teaser as bad and obscene. Many people considered it ‘unnecessary’ and stressed the need to limit such scenes. Due to the controversy, actress Beatriz Taufenbach, who was seen in this scene, also deleted her Instagram account. The Commission believes that such material ignores the sensitivity of women.

Meanwhile, the film’s director Anurag Kashyap supported the film and called the opponents ‘hypocrites’. He comments that society accepts men’s sexuality, but when a woman presents her sexuality, controversy arises. This shows double standards and questions the freedom of expression of artists.
