Which new parties are entering in 2026? Will there be a game between Bengal and Tamil Nadu?

This year, assembly elections are to be held in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry. It is possible that the Election Commission may announce the election dates in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Assam in April-May. Big political parties have started their election campaigns in these states and as the elections are approaching, the election campaign is also gaining momentum. In West Bengal where TMC-BJP-Congress and Left parties are in the electoral fray. There is a direct contest between BJP-Congress in Assam, while in Tamil Nadu, DMK alliance and NDA alliance will face each other.

But, apart from the old regional parties, some new parties have also emerged in these states. These new parties are going to try their luck for the first time in the 2026 assembly elections in their respective states. This time in Tamil Nadu, actor Thalapathy Vijay launched ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK) party in the year 2024. He is preparing to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with his newly formed party. He has presented himself as an alternative to DMK and AIADMK by holding big rallies in the state.

Humayun Kabir’s new party

Similarly, in West Bengal, suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir has formed a new party named ‘Janata Unnayan Party’ at the end of 2025. Kabir has made it clear from his initial statements that he will woo minority voters to his side. It is certain that these new political parties will have to face a huge struggle to challenge the already established parties.

It is not easy to challenge big parties

Recent election data shows that it is not easy for new parties to challenge the established big parties. The exception in this list is the ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ which emerged from the Anna movement of Delhi, which has run the government in Delhi as well as Punjab. Also, it is emerging as an alternative in many states.

Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK in the field…

Thalapathy Vijay, who ruled Tamil cinema, has decided to retire from films and completely enter politics. Actually, 88 parties had contested the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Out of these, only 4 parties got seats. Whereas, in the 2021 elections, only 8 out of 106 parties were successful in winning seats. The pattern is such that small parties often capture votes but are not successful in winning seats.

Mosque and Humayun in Murshidabad

Similarly, recently rebel suspended MLA of Trinamool Congress Humayun Kabir has formed Janata Unnayan Party at the end of 2025. He has decided to contest the upcoming assembly elections. By announcing the construction of Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district, Kabir has pledged to defeat the current Mamata Banerjee government. These are the parties which come in the news. But apart from these, dozens of parties are formed and dissolved during elections and participate in the democratic process.

Not only Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam but also in states like Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra etc. new parties are formed and destroyed. But, these parties are not able to show much impact in the elections. However, as the election dates come closer. More new parties are likely to emerge in these states, but will they have a major impact on the results? Only time will tell. But every election is unique in itself and the previous figures are only an indication.
