Azamgarh: What happened 27 years ago that Shia-Sunni clashed? 12 guilty verdicts
There was a riot in 1999 between Shia and Sunni communities in Mubarakpur area of Azamgarh. Ali Akbar was murdered in this riot. The trial in the murder case of Ali Akbar was going on for the last 27 years. The court has given its verdict on this case on Friday. A total of 12 accused have been convicted in this case. The accused will be sentenced in the court on February 17.
Ali Akbar’s own three brothers are also among the accused in his murder. Shia and Sunni riots took place on 27 April 1999. When people of Shia community were taking out a Muharram procession. In this procession, Ali Akbar was beaten to death by a group of people. After which this matter went to court.

Shia-Sunni dispute
Shia and Sunni dispute started in a village of Mubarakpur police station area. This dispute started over just 10 feet of land. After this, on 27 April 1999, during the days of Muharram, people of Shia community were taking out a procession. This procession was stopped by the Shia community after which a clash broke out between the two communities. People pelted stones from both sides. Also some people beat up Ali Akhbar. The police tried to stop these riots after some time.
Ali Akbar was not a part of this riot. He had gone to ‘Panje Shah’ to bury Tajiya, he was not at the place of riot. From there he was returning home in the evening. Due to this riot he could not return to his home. After which, the next morning, Ali Akbar’s son filed a missing report of his father. During the investigation, the police found Ali Akbar’s decapitated body near a pond on April 30. The police found in their investigation that this murder was committed during a procession riot.

After investigation, the police declared about 12 people guilty in this case. After which this matter went to the District Court. In the court, both the parties presented their respective arguments before the judge. After which District Court Judge Jaiprakash Pandey ruled that 12 accused are guilty of this murder.
