New Delhi: On Friday, the demonstration of students in the Arts Faculty of Delhi University in favor of the new rules of UGC turned violent. Ruchi Tiwari, a female journalist associated with the YouTube channel, had come there to cover the news. The crowd surrounded him and beat him. Ruchi told that she was targeted because her caste was Brahmin. The incident is clearly visible in the viral video on social media. Police have registered an FIR but questions are being raised on the action. However, Janbhavana Times does not confirm this news.

Ruchi Tiwari’s statement

Let us tell you that Ruchi Tiwari told the media that she had gone to cover the protest. When someone called her name, she came closer. Then caste was asked and as soon as the hint was given, hundreds of people pounced on him. He said that about 500 people attacked. The girls nearby whispered rape threats and talked about taking out a naked parade. She had become unconscious but the police remained silent. She escaped with the help of some law faculty people and female policemen.

A student Akash Pathak witnessed the incident. He said that the attackers did not appear to be students. They were raising slogans against Brahminism and abusing on the basis of caste. The female journalist was misbehaved. Akash accused the police of not taking action. He said that being a Brahmin should not be a crime. In such an environment, the safety of journalists is a matter of concern.

Attack on media is dangerous for democracy…ABVP

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad issued a statement blaming the attack on left wing organisations. He said that attack on media is dangerous for democracy. Left groups claim freedom of speech but spread violence. ABVP demanded strict action from Delhi Police and University. He linked the incident to the failure of the Left.

AISA’s answer

All India Students Association said that right wing goons targeted the journalist. His members tried to save him. AISA claimed that the police gave a free hand to the attackers. They are scared of the increasing support of UGC rules. The organization described the violence as a sign of fear. The war of words between the two sides has intensified.
