Lorcan Takure broke Rohit Sharma’s record

New Delhi, 14 February 2026: Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker created havoc with his batting against Oman in Colombo. He played an unbeaten inning of 94 runs in the match played against Oman and with this he broke the record of former Indian captain Rohit Sharma. He has now overtaken Rohit in a special list and is only behind former West Indies opener Chris Gayle.

So far, lower-ranked teams have performed well in the 2026 T20 World Cup and Ireland has now been added to the list. They had lost their first two matches, but against Oman, the captain took charge and led his team to a mammoth score of 235 runs. Lorke broke Rohit’s record by playing an inning of 94 runs.

Lorcan Takure broke Rohit Sharma’s record

Chris Gayle holds the record for the highest score as a captain in the history of T20 World Cup, where he scored 98 runs against India in 2010. Rohit Sharma was second in this list and he had scored 92 runs against Australia in 2024. However, Tucker has now overtaken Rohit and reached second position with 94 runs. Rohit has now slipped to third place in the list.

Chris Gayle is also fourth in this list, he scored 88 runs against Australia in 2009. Kane Williamson is in fifth place. Kane scored 85 runs against Australia in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Ireland made a big record

Ireland scored 235 runs in this match, which is the second highest score in the history of T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka is the highest scoring team, having scored 260 runs against Kenya in the 2007 T20 World Cup. England is third in this list, having scored 230 runs against South Africa in the 2016 T20 World Cup.
