Rubio calls US Europe’s ‘child’, shares history of US and Europe
Munich, Germany). US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called America the ‘child’ of Europe. He spoke from the stage of the Munich Security Conference about the history that the US and Europe share. Claimed that his country wants to chart a new path to prosperity with Europe. His speech was welcomed by the representatives of various countries present in the auditorium with standing and applause. In a very gentle and simple manner he talked about not aiming for the end of the trans-Atlantic era.
“The end of the transatlantic era is neither our goal nor our desire,” Rubio said. We Americans may be home in the Western Hemisphere, but we will always be children of Europe. After this he talked about Europe-US bonds. Referring to the shared history, he explained how the story of the US began with an Italian explorer and the first colonies were formed by the British. Then Scottish, Irish and German farmers shaped them.
According to Rubio, ‘Our history and our destiny will always be linked to each other. America is paving the way for a new century of prosperity, but it wants to do so with Europe. We do not want our allies and partners to be held in the chains of shame.
Rubio described deindustrialization and mass migration as dangerous for Europe. According to him deindustrialization was not necessary, and was a ‘stupid’ result of post-war ‘confusion’.
He also advised not to take migration lightly. Mass migration is not, and never was, a minor concern, he says, as he warns that it is transforming and destabilizing societies throughout the West. This is a major threat to the fabric of our society and the survival of our civilization.
The Munich Security Conference is held every year in February in Munich, Germany. In this, heads of state, defense ministers and military experts from all over the world gather and openly discuss global security challenges, war and diplomacy.
