IND vs PAK: He is an ordinary off spinner… Sourav Ganguly washes out Usman Tariq

Pakistan’s mystery spinner Usman Tariq is being said to be a big challenge for the Indian batsmen. Before the high-voltage match of the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held on Sunday at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the Indian team was also seen preparing especially for this bowler.

Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav was seen stopping and bowling after coming near the crease like Usman Tariq in the nets. Surya bowled the ball to Abhishek Sharma and Rinku Singh in the action of Usman Tariq. This shows that this spinner is not being discussed just like that. However, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has described Usman Tariq as an ordinary off-spinner.

‘Team India will play him well’

In the T20 World Cup, Indian batsmen have been seen struggling against spin, considering which Usman Tariq is being considered a threat on the pitch of R Premadasa Stadium, but Ganguly expressed confidence that Team India will play him well. 28-year-old Usman Tariq releases the ball only after taking a slight break in his ‘delivery stride’, which makes it difficult for the batsmen to play. Taking advantage of this, he has taken 11 wickets in 4 T20 International matches.

Bengal Cricket Association President Ganguly told the media during the T20 World Cup magazine launch, ‘It is difficult to predict in T20 but India is a good team and it is not easy to defeat them.’ Answering a question about the threat of Usman Tariq, he said, ‘There is nothing difficult, he is an off-spinner and he just bowls intermittently. India will play it well.

Grandfather’s advice – don’t make changes in the team

Ganguly advised that India go against Pakistan without any changes. He said, ‘Akshar Patel, Varun Chakraborty, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh should be the main bowlers. I don’t think Rinku Singh should be replaced by Kuldeep Yadav because you have to keep balance in the batting department as well. I think the same team should play.

Pakistani team has no strength

When asked about opener Abhishek Sharma, Ganguly said that the focus should be on the team. He said, ‘One person does not matter.’ He also said that the current Pakistani team is not the same as before. Ganguly said, ‘If we look at the skills of batsmen like Inzamam ul Haq, Saeed Anwar, Mohammad Yusuf, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, it was a different team. This team is not the same anymore.
