The Natural Hazards Early Warning Center has warned that inclement weather could develop at match time itself, increasing the possibility of the match being delayed or shortened. “A low-pressure area is likely to form over the south-eastern part of the Bay of Bengal around February 15,” the Sri Lankan Meteorological Department said in a statement. Apart from this, weather monitoring website Accuweather has also predicted the possibility of rain on February 15.
Accuweather data shows that there is a 70-80 per cent chance of rain in the morning and afternoon on the match day in the Khetarama area of Colombo, where the stadium is located. The threat subsides slightly in the evening, but light rain is still expected, which may delay the toss or interrupt play during the India-Pakistan match. At the same time, frequent interruptions can reduce the number of overs and shorten the match.
