After all, why did Mahadev come to marry Mother Parvati after applying ashes from the crematorium? Know the unheard story behind this
Mahadev Parvati Marriage Story: On this auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, this question often comes in our mind that despite being the lord of the world, why did Mahadev go to marry Goddess Parvati by applying the ashes of the cremation ground and taking a procession of ghosts. This story is as interesting as it gives a deep lesson.
Why Mahadev became Aghori groom
Lord Shiva is called Amarnath and Mrityunjay. There is a very beautiful sentiment behind applying the ashes of his crematorium. Shiva means welfare and crematorium means end.
Mahadev wanted to give the message that my devotion begins from where the world ends. The ashes of the crematorium symbolize that this body is mortal and in the end everyone has to return to the soil (ashes). By applying this ash, Mahadev showed that he is the protector not only of gods or humans but also of those living beings and souls which the society shuns as inauspicious.
When Mother Parvati was tested
According to mythology, when Mahadev reached the palace of King Himachal with his procession, he was accompanied by ghosts, ghosts, vampires and people like Nandi-Bhringi. Mahadev’s body was covered with ashes, there were snakes around his neck and he was riding on a bull.

The townspeople of Himalaya and Queen Maina (Parvati’s mother) got scared after seeing this form. Queen Maina was not ready to give Parvati’s hand to Mahadev. But Mother Parvati was not perturbed. He smiled and said that I have loved Vairagi Shiva and not for his external form.
The real message of this story
The Aghori form of Mahadev shows that real love and devotion does not need external glitter or decoration. Mother Parvati loved the qualities of Shiva and his soul.
There were people in Shiva’s procession whom no one liked (ghosts). Mahadev taking them along shows that no one is small, big, ugly or scary in the eyes of God. They hug everyone.
Mahadev’s going to get married after applying ashes was actually a celebration of the end of attachment. He showed that even after entering household life, he would remain the same recluse from within who has equal feelings towards everything in the world.
