T20 World Cup 2026 Rain Looms Over India Pakistan Match How Will Points Be Distributed If The Match Is Washed Out

The threat of rain looms over the much-awaited Group A clash between India and Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The high-voltage encounter is scheduled to take place in Colombo, but according to weather forecasts, rain could hamper the game or even wash out the match altogether. In such a situation, the big question in the minds of cricket fans is that if the match is cancelled, what do the rules say and what effect will it have on the tournament.

This match is part of the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. According to the playing conditions prescribed by the International Cricket Council (ICC), to get a result in any T20 match, it is mandatory for both the teams to play a minimum of five overs each in their innings. If at least five overs are not completed in both innings due to rain, the match will be declared “No Result”. In such a situation, both the teams will be given one point each.

There is no reserve day scheduled for this group-stage match. Usually, reserve day is kept only for knockout matches like semi-finals and finals. Therefore if the entire match is washed out due to rain in Colombo, it will not be played again on any other day.

If there is no result in the match, then both India and Pakistan will get one point each in the points table. This will not completely block the path to the semi-finals for both the teams, but their performance and net run rate will play an important role in the future matches.

If a few overs of play are possible and rain intervenes later, the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method can be applied to determine the result, provided the minimum overs condition is met. But if the conditions are so bad that even five overs cannot be completed, then fans will not be able to get the thrill of the biggest rivalry of the tournament this time.

Suryakumar Yadav is commanding the Indian team. The team includes Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Sanju Samson, Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Varun Chakraborty, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Abhishek Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar. However, currently the Indian team’s opening batsman Abhishek Sharma was suffering from stomach problem, as a result of which there is speculation that he will be out of the match.

Now all eyes are on the weather in Colombo, where rain can decide whether the thrill of cricket will be seen on the field or the result of equality in the points table.
