Assam PM Modi lands at emergency landing facility centre.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (February 14) inaugurated the North-East’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) at Moran Bypass in Assam’s Dibrugarh district. This project has been developed at a cost of approximately ₹100 crore and is considered important from a strategic point of view. Development projects worth over ₹5,500 crore were also launched in the state during the Prime Minister’s day-long visit to Assam.
The Prime Minister reached Chabua Airfield in the morning, where he was welcomed by Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior officials of the state government. After this the Prime Minister left for ELF located at Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh district in a C-130 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

According to officials, the 4.2 km long facility is the first project of its kind in the North-East region, developed keeping in mind the national security and disaster management requirements. This emergency landing facility will enable safe landing and take-off of fighter and transport aircraft of the Air Force, which will enable quick military and relief operations in case of crisis. It is being considered an important infrastructure in terms of regional connectivity and strategic preparedness.
The Prime Minister also watched a 40-minute special aerial display by the Indian Air Force after the inaugural event. The display included fighter aircraft, transport aircraft and helicopters, which demonstrated operational capability and coordination. Security arrangements remained tight during the program and coordination was seen between the civil administration and defense forces.

In the remaining events of the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects worth over ₹5,500 crore related to infrastructure, connectivity and socio-economic development in Assam. These projects aim to accelerate transportation, industrial development and public welfare services in the state. The government says that these initiatives will increase employment opportunities and give a new impetus to the overall development journey of the North-East region.
After the conclusion of the programmes, the Prime Minister left for Guwahati by flying from ELF in the same C-130 aircraft. Officials said that this emergency landing facility developed on Moran Bypass will play an important role in future not only in defense preparedness but also in disaster-response and humanitarian aid operations.
