What to offer to Shivling and what not to offer? Know the correct method of worship

What should be offered on Shivalinga?

According to the local tradition, offering Belpatra, Dhatura, Aak flower, white sandalwood, ashes, coconut, sugarcane juice, pomegranate, banana, mango, blackberries, litchi, guava and seasonal fruits is also considered auspicious.

What should not be offered on Shivalinga?

According to religious belief, broken things, dry or rotten fruits, fruits with black spots, stale flowers or old worship materials should not be offered to Shivalinga. Offering red flowers, sunflowers and thorny flowers is also considered inauspicious.
Native belief says that offering such things can anger Bholenath and one does not get the full results of the puja.

With which vessel to offer water to Shivalinga?

A pot made of copper, silver, brass or bronze is considered best for offering water to Shivalinga. Even today a copper pot is considered auspicious in Indian homes.
Offering water from steel or plastic vessels is prohibited in the scriptures. Try to use only clean and sacred utensils.

Important rules of Shivling worship

Shivling should always be worshiped after taking bath and wearing clean clothes. While worshiping, keep your face towards north or east.
While offering puja material, keep chanting the mantra “Om Namah Shivay”. After worship, do half parikrama of Shivalinga. The complete parikrama is not done because the place behind the Shivalinga is considered especially sacred.
