While BJP is expanding its alliance with its partner AIADMK, the ruling DMK is trying every trick to come to power once again. DMK chief and Chief Minister MK Stalin has played a big gamble to win the elections. He has deposited Rs 5,000 each in the accounts of 1.31 crore women of the state, which has shocked the opposition parties. Because sending money directly into women’s accounts is a tried and tested recipe, using which BJP has won elections in Bihar and Delhi and other states.

The Chief Minister has given Rs 5,000 each to the women under the Kalaignar Rights Scheme. After becoming the Chief Minister in 2021, DMK performed well in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The amount will increase from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000
The present Tamil Nadu government has been providing financial assistance to the women of the state under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme. This scheme was started in September 2023. Under the scheme, Rs 1,000 is directly transferred every month to the bank accounts of eligible women (head of the family). Under this scheme, CM Stalin has announced to increase the amount of money from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. This will be implemented when the government comes again. The government believes that this scheme is aimed at empowering women financially, helping them with their household expenses, children’s education and medicines etc.
understand the intricacies of the plan
Chief Minister MK Stalin made a big announcement on 13 February 2026. They deposited Rs 5,000 together in the accounts of 1.31 crore eligible women. This amount was distributed as follows… Advance payments were made to eligible women for February, March and April. Rs 3,000 (1,000 × 3 months). At the same time, Rs 2,000 was given as a special summer package. In this way this amount becomes five thousand rupees, but women have received this amount together. After the money was transferred, the Chief Minister said that payment has been made to the women in advance so that the scheme cannot be stopped on the pretext of elections.
Number of women voters in Tamil Nadu
This step of DMK is being seen as a way to woo women just before the elections. The number of women voters in Tamil Nadu is equal to that of male voters. In such a situation, targeting such a large number of women and sending money to their accounts is being seen as a big strategy of DMK.

According to official data, the total number of voters in Tamil Nadu (before SIR) is more than 6.23 crore, of which women constitute more than 3.17 crore. In this context, the number of women voters is about 51 percent of the total voters. At the same time, the number of male voters is 49 percent. These figures are for the time of 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In the last 2021 assembly elections, the DMK alliance had secured 37.70 percent vote share. The alliance had won 159 seats out of the total 234 seats in the state. Of these, DMK alone won 133 seats. In comparison, the then ruling AIADMK alliance could win only 75 seats in total. After this, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections also, DMK has performed better by winning 39 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state. In such a situation, DMK has played master card by sending five thousand rupees to the women’s bank account at once.
Stalin on the path of BJP
In fact, in the Delhi Assembly elections 2025, BJP in its manifesto had promised to provide financial assistance of Rs 2,500 every month for women under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana. Similarly, in November 2025, the NDA government of Bihar had directly transferred ten thousand rupees to the bank accounts of women. Similarly, BJP’s Assam government is soon considering providing monthly financial assistance to women from economically weaker families under the Orunodoi scheme. After the elections, BJP led NDA got a landslide victory. This amount given to women was considered a big factor in this victory.
Similarly, MK Stalin government has directly transferred five thousand rupees to the accounts of women. Somewhere DMK is also trying to get women on its side by adopting BJP’s strategy.
