160mm Rocket MotorBengaluru-based defense tech startup SpaceFields has achieved a major milestone by successfully designing and developing a 160 mm class solid rocket motor for the Naval Armament Inspectorate of the Indian Navy. This is not only a victory of technology but also a testimony to the growing strength of the private sector towards self-reliant India.
Hot fire trials of this rocket motor were recently conducted under the strict supervision of the Indian Navy. This is the most important test for any rocket engine. During this, the motor is burnt by keeping it stable on the ground, so that its thrust (pushing power), internal pressure and combustion stability can be accurately analyzed. The test results show that this motor is completely safe and capable of operating in combat conditions.
Why is it a game-changer for the Navy?
Timing and accuracy are of great importance in military operations, and especially at sea. Solid propulsion technology has many advantages. There is no time wasted in filling it like liquid fuel, it is always in launch ready mode. It can be stored safely for a long period without any special repairs. This 160 mm motor will be used mainly in booster stage or short-range missiles and ammunition systems. Due to precise thrust control, it will be helpful in giving correct direction and speed to the missile. Although, due to security reasons, the name of the weapon for its specific use has been kept secret, but experts believe that this technology will form the basis of many future strategic projects.
