No ‘Oye’, now say ‘Sir’ or ‘Madam’… Know where this new order was issued for the police.
New Delhi : Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken a revolutionary and big step to make the police system in Pakistan’s Punjab province humane and civilized. There were often complaints among the public about the rude, rude and intimidating behavior of the police, regarding which the government has now adopted a very strict stance. The Chief Minister believes that the basic job of the police is to serve the public and not to humiliate them. With this humanitarian objective in mind, new strict guidelines have been set for the police force.

Let us tell you that during an important meeting, Maryam Nawaz laid special emphasis on the fact that policemen should no longer address citizens in public places by calling them ‘Oye’ in a derogatory manner. He gave strict instructions to all the officers that people coming to police stations, posts and offices should be addressed only with respectful words like ‘Sir’, ‘Madam’ or ‘Sahib’. According to the Chief Minister, the dignity of the public is paramount and its violation will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Strict action will be taken against intimidating behavior
The Chief Minister made it clear that the old intimidating attitude of the police will no longer be accepted under the new reforms. He said that restoring security and confidence in the police in the minds of the public is his top priority. Policemen who refuse to follow the rules of talking in a respectful manner will not be allowed to perform field duty or communicate directly with the public. Complaints will be taken immediate cognizance to bring about comprehensive changes in discipline.
Accurate monitoring will be done through body cameras
Now modern technological reforms are also being adopted to bring transparency and accountability in the police system. Maryam Nawaz has ordered all patrol teams and traffic policemen to compulsorily wear ‘body cameras’. It will be implemented in a phased manner in the entire province within the next two months. With the help of these cameras, every conversation between the police and the public will be recorded, which will make it possible to investigate any complaint in a fair and accurate manner in future.
Special need for better body language
The Chief Minister has laid special emphasis not only on words but also on improving the body language of the policemen. He said that the behavior of policemen while on duty should be restrained, decent and professional at all times. The presence of police should create a sense of security in the minds of the public, not panic. In the training program, policemen will also be taught the special art of talking professionally and having appropriate body language.
Why did this tough decision have to be taken?
For some time, many complaints about inhuman and uncivilized behavior of Punjab Police were reaching the government. Due to this, there was huge resentment and dissatisfaction among the general public towards the police. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the administration has taken a historic decision to change the culture of policing. The Chief Minister has bluntly warned that now if the complaint of misbehavior against any citizen is found to be true, then the concerned policeman will have to face the strictest departmental and legal action.
