Italy’s epic ‘war cry’ goes viral after stunning T20 World Cup win over Nepal
In a historic turn of events at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, the Italian cricket team has captured the world’s attention. Following a stunning 10-wicket victory over Nepal at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium on February 12, a “war cry” from the Italian dressing room has gone viral across social media.
While Italy is world-renowned for football, its “Azzurri” (the Blues) cricketers proved they carry the same legendary passion.
After dismantling Nepal’s bowling attack to claim their first-ever World Cup win, the Italian players celebrated by stomping their feet and banging bats against the dressing room floor.
Led by team president Simone Gambino and joined by Indian acting legend Kabir Bedi, the team chanted a piercing war cry that has now become a symbol of their “death or glory” approach to the tournament.
The chant echoed through the Wankhede corridors translates to a fierce promise of loyalty to their jersey.
“The blue Magila. We are ready. For death!” (The blue shirt. We are ready. For death!)
“We are Italy! Who are we? Italy!” (We are Italy! Who are we? Italy!)
The team’s stand-in captain, Harry Manenti, noted that the emotion was raw because most of the squad are not full-time pros – featuring a pizza chef, a carpenter, and a teacher.
“You don’t often see players crying after a group-stage win,” Manenti said, “but that’s the passion Italians bring.”
