Release of Thalapathy Vijay’s film ‘Jana Nayakan’ delayed
New Delhi: A new information has come out for the fans of Thalapathy Vijay. His much-awaited film ‘Jana Nayakan’ will no longer release on February 20 due to legal hurdles and Censor Board delays. The makers have officially announced that the film will no longer be seen in theaters after April 30. This delay will not only impact the commercial performance of the film but also the political activities in the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Controversy and censoring processes regarding the film
The controversy over ‘Jana Nayakan’ started on December 18, 2025 when it was submitted for certification. The scrutiny committee recommended some cuts, which were accepted by the producers. The film was expected to get a ‘UA’ certificate, but was sent to the revising committee due to controversial depiction of some scenes. This strict action has shaken up the release plans of the film, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty among fans.
Legal proceedings and recent developments
In view of the delay in the release, ‘KVN Productions’ had filed a petition for urgent certificate in the Madras High Court. But later the producers withdrew this petition. This move came as a surprise to many people. Currently the Censor Board is re-evaluating the scenes of the film, due to which its release date has now been extended to the end of April. These legal issues and the delay in censor certificate remain worrying for the future of the film.
Refund of tickets and response from distributors
In view of the uncertainty of the film, Canadian distributor ‘York Cinemas’ has started the process of booking refund. The distributors have issued an official notice that those who had made advance bookings are being refunded their full money. Older members will be given priority when the new release date is decided. The producers are also requesting refunds from the audience, which could have a negative impact on the financial condition of the film.
Election season and future challenges
The film’s release is now likely to coincide with the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Due to these elections being held between April and May, the promotion of the film is expected to be seriously affected. Experts believe that this being Vijay’s last film, it is associated with many political sentiments. Due to the delay, the film will have to make its mark in the election environment, which may prove to be a tough test for the box office.
movie with army of stars
This film of director H. Vinod includes many leading stars. Big actors like Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamita Baiju and Gautam Vasudev Menon will be seen in it. There was a lot of excitement about it being Vijay’s farewell film, but Censor Board action and legal processes are currently stalling everything. Fans are now waiting to see if this film will achieve a successful result at the box office upon its release.
