Police lathi charge on farmers sitting on dharna against dumping ground, 60 people injured, one in critical condition

Uttar Pradesh: The protest against dumping ground in Loni area of ​​Ghaziabad district of UP took a violent form. There was a fierce clash between the protesting farmers and the police in Hindu Mirpur village on Sunday afternoon. Farmers pelted stones at the police, while the police tried to control the situation by lathicharge. About 60 people were injured in this clash, including elderly people, women and farmers.

Clash started from demonstration

Farmers have been opposing the proposed dumping ground in Hindu Mirpur for a long time. They say that garbage dumping will cause pollution in the surrounding fields, water and air, which will have a negative impact on health. Peaceful protests were going on in the village on Sunday.

After receiving the information, the police team reached the spot and tried to talk to the farmers, but the matter escalated. Farmers allege that the police abused, while the police say that the protesters started pelting stones first.

Chaos due to lathi charge and stone pelting

When the clash intensified, the police tried to disperse the crowd by using batons. Farmers threw stones in response. Villagers claim that 50 to 60 people were injured due to the lathi charge. A woman has suffered serious head injuries, while a villager’s hip is said to be broken. The injured were immediately admitted to the nearest hospital, where the condition of some is said to be critical.

Tension has increased in the area after the incident. There is news of Bharatiya Kisan Union’s national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait reaching the spot, due to which the situation may become more heated. Police have deployed heavy force and started investigation. Allegations and counter-allegations from both sides continue. Farmers are adamant on their demand to cancel the dumping ground, while the administration is emphasizing on maintaining security and law and order.
