Mahashivratri 2026: Today on Mahashivratri, a huge crowd of devotees gathered in the Shiva temples, people performed Jalabhishek of Baba Bholenath.
Mahashivratri 2026: The festival of Mahashivratri is being celebrated today (15 February). On this occasion, huge crowd is being seen at 12 Jyotirlingas and Shivalayas located across the country since morning. Devotees were seen in long queues at the temples and performed Jalabhishek of Baba Bholenath. According to religious beliefs, the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati took place on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun Maha.

On the day of Mahashivratri, Shiva devotees observe fast and worship Lord Shiva with rituals. Along with worshiping Lord Shiva, the day of Mahashivratri is also called the day of spiritual awakening. On this occasion, devotees gathered at Baba Baidyanath Dham for worship and prayers. At the same time, devotees offered prayers at Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple in Kankhal, Haridwar and participated in the festivities. In Dehradun, devotees visited Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple and offered prayers and sought blessings. On the occasion of Mahashivratri in Dwarka, a large number of devotees have reached Nageshwar Jyotirlinga.
A huge crowd of devotees was seen in the Kashi Vishwanath temple located in Varanasi on Mahashivratri. Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust, says: “The devotees were welcomed with a shower of flowers. A large number of devotees participated in the Mangala Aarti. More than 1.6 lakh people have visited so far. This year, 8-10 lakh devotees are expected. Complete arrangements including drinking water, disposable glasses, ORS solution, fruits and medical help desk have been made.” Lost and found centers are operational, and all necessary facilities are available.”
