West Indies becomes the first team to qualify for Super-8

Cricket, 16 February 2026: West Indies became the first team to reach the Super 8 of T20 World Cup 2026. The Caribbean team achieved qualification by defeating Nepal by nine wickets in the 25th match of the league stage played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Nepal’s journey in the tournament ended with defeat.

Just as West Indies became the first team to qualify for the Super 8, Nepal became the second team to be eliminated from the tournament after Oman’s exit from the T20 World Cup.

West Indies top the points table

West Indies qualified for the next stage by winning three consecutive matches. The team under the leadership of Shai Hope has scored six points. The net run rate of the team is +1.820. With the most points and net run rate, they are on top of the Group C points table.

In their three matches so far, West Indies have defeated Scotland by 35 runs, England by 30 runs and Nepal by 9 wickets. The team will play its next and final league match against Italy on 19 February at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Nepal also has its last league match left

The eliminated Nepal team lost three consecutive matches against England by 4 runs, against Italy by 10 wickets and against West Indies by 9 wickets.

However, Nepal will play their last league match against Scotland at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 17 February before returning home from the tournament.

Qualification not confirmed despite three wins in Group D

West Indies has entered Super 8 after winning three matches in Group C. However, South Africa has failed to qualify in Group D despite three consecutive wins. Now it will be interesting to see which other team after West Indies officially reaches the Super-8.
